Family Time

My Aunt Carol, who works human relations for Hewitt, has some clients in St. Louis. And this time, when she was down for business, she stopped in to visit me as well! She just celebrated her 50th Anniversary in Hawaii, and brought me and Casey some souvenirs and an anniversary gift, which was amazingly sweet of her. We went to the CWE for dinner, and ate at Bar Italia on Maryland. I've actually never been there before, but it looked delicious and had tons of charming patio seating. I'm glad we gave it a try because it was fantastic. Dinner was long because we just chatted the whole time. Like, nonstop talking, which is great. It felt nice to be chatting the way I grew up learning to talk - constant, fast, loud, and talking at the same time sometimes. People thought I was rude at Cornell for talking the way my family taught me to talk. But to me it makes good sense that as you see someone is finishing their sentence, you continue listening but also start your sentence in response. Overlap. It's very efficient. Anyway we had a blast.

And she brought me beautiful pearl jewelry from Hawaii (again, most of my jewelry is gifts!), a pretty statue for our anniversary that Izzy picked out, and Hawaiian candy for Casey. She's always so generous.

So today I planned my outfit around wanting to wear my new jewelry. I often do that. I find it easiest to decide what outfit to wear in a day by just starting with ONE thing I know I want to wear, and then thinking of what would go well with that.

And then here's what I picked to go with it on this hot summer day:

Pearl Necklace and Earrings: Gift from Aunt Carol, Hawaii
Little Coral Earrings: Gift from Mom, New Mexico
Peach sheer ruffle tank: Souvenir from Paris, Summer 2005
White Cami: Ann Taylor, Gift from Aunt Carol
White Pocket skirt: Anthropologie
White sandals: American Eagle

I am glad I picked the jewelry first, because otherwise with this shirt I would have jumped at yet another opportunity to wear all my coral jewelry. I'm glad I paired it with something else this time. I'm also glad I hung onto this little shirt all these years, because after 2005, the style became for shirts to be longer, and this almost-showing-my-midriff length just didn't work anymore, and I wore it very infrequently. Thankfully, the return of high-waisted skirts has given me lots of opportunities to bring this pretty little peach souvenir out of retirement. :-)

Lunch and then off to Adorjan for the day, where the AC no longer makes the place frigid, thanks to the removal of the honeycomb brick and the excess of sunlight flooding in these days. I hope I can find some motivation for French today - I've been rather apathetic about it recently cause of all these fun trips and time with family and friends.
