I have a secret. I liked Mamma Mia better than Dark Knight. (But I LOVED Dark Knight, don't worry. AMAZING.) I just have had SO MUCH FREAKING FUN the 2 times I've seen Mamma Mia now.
Okay. 1st full day in St. Louis.
Talked to Mom on the phone today, telling her about how the move went, where the furniture all went in the living room, and how I stole a towel from the luxuriously comfy Holiday Inn she'd booked for me and Dad.
Dad: "This is what your Mom and I do! We steal washcloths! And then we throw the rest of the linens in the corner so you can't tell anything's missing!"
It was nice to talk to her, and get all the hilarious texts from my Dad today. He's a clever texter on the road.
Today I set up my whole closet, unpacked bathroom stuff, unpacked lots of other random stuff, etc. Waking up with Casey in the comfiest bed in the entire world (ah pillowtop luxury!) with morning sunlight streaming in our east-facing bedroom overlooking a beautiful view of the city including the domed cathedral was a lovely way to wake up. And to make it all even better, Danielle was making pancakes and scrambled eggs already! DELICIOUS! What a great first morning at my new home.
I unpacked more while Casey and Danielle prepared for their callbacks for the Mother Theresa is Dead reading. In the course of a morning I heard Casey's British accent go from quite bad to believable, all due to Danielle's dialect help. Ah phonetics! I love living with someone who appreciates terms like "alveolar ridge," "glottal stop," and "schwa." This will be fun. I liked the side they were reading and I know they were doing it well because in the other room it sounded to me like "...mommy and daddy are fighting!" and not "Casey and Danielle are reading a scene." They left after I made Casey a grilled cheese sandwich for lunch for their callbacks. I watched Saved! and unpacked while they were gone. They said the callbacks went really well, so that's all good. I still can't believe how great it is that they guy remembered Casey from the St. Louis Rep auditions back in early May! My boyfriend is worth remembering! YAY!
When they returned we all went shopping in the "Amy's Mall" area, hitting Bed Bath & Beyond, Target, and Wal-Mart. The wal-mart we decided was uncomfortably large and poorly set up. I much preferred the Target, though we did get some good deals on a floor lamp, toaster, and crock pot at Wal-Mart.
Eventually I made us all baked potatoes with cheese and side salads for dinner while we watched a bit of UFC. I enjoy using the new plates a lot and am glad they fit in the microwave, considering how large they are!
Around 7:15 we decided to check what time Mamma Mia was playing at the nearby theatre. 7:30! So we changed, and walked right across the street to the theatre and were there to get drinks, and see movie trivia and all the previews. And by get drinks, I do not mean lemonade or slushy cherry cokes. No. This theatre's concession stand sells Margaritas, Beer, Daiquiris, Wine, fancy chocolate, and Toblerone bars! Now THAT Is how adults watch Movies!!! I got a deliciously sweet strawberry daiquiri and Casey and Danielle got very strong margaritas, and we sat down to the most fun I've had in the movies since the first time I saw Mamma Mia with Mom and Sam. I've decided that I love the movie so much because (a) Meryl Streep is amazing in it, and (b)because you just fall in love with the main character Sophie. Amanda Seyfriend just plays her so beautifully and I love her. She is so delightful and sweet that you can't take your eyes off her no matter who else is on screen. And MAN Danielle and I laughed so hard. And since the audience was all a *little* liquored up, we ALL laughed so hard! It is pry the only time Casey will be NOT embarrassed by our excessive laughter. Anyway, that movie is definitely one I'll be buying when it comes out on DVD.
Now my computer is all set up, and I'm very happy with the way this apartment is already shaping into a home. I love my little cubby behind the screen, and I love the soft red blanket Mom got as a throw for the couch, and I love living with Casey and Danielle! FUN! Tomorrow is probably our celebratory move-in dinner, and Danielle's making steaks and has a nice bottle of merlot to go with it. That should be a cheery evening. I was a little bit homesick earlier today sitting on the couches from home all alone in the apartment, wondering what Sam and Mom were up to, but it passed quickly in my excitement to be here.
