Today was a fun day. In the morning I went out to the mall with Mom, Sammie, and her friend Bryn. They went to see a movie while Mom and worked on shoe shopping. No luck at Sport Authority, but plenty at DSW shoe warehouse. That place is amazingly full of shoes. I got two pairs of Saucony running shoes, just cause they're hard to find sometimes, and will last longer if I have two. Then I also got a pair of blue sandals, a fuzzy pair of clogs for winter, and a ridiculously comfortable pair of black mary janes. I'm usually wary of a mary jane, unless it is very cute, but this one is cute and VERY comfy, so it wins to be my new black shoe - I don't think those quilted steve maddens (a)will last much longer, or (b)can compare in comfort and arch support. I was kind of a baby 'cause shoe shopping for me is kind of a process. I REFUSE to sacrifice comfort for a cute shoe, but there are NOT very many fashionable comfy shoes, so I get frustrated and negative about shoes. It makes me just want to wear my sauconys all the time, which I know is also not the most fashionable choice. Oh well. I am pleased with what I found though, and best of all, Mom wanted to buy me all 5 pairs of shoes!!!! :-) I love that she wants to send me into the world with everything I need. It really means a lot to me.
Later I went out to dinner and a movie with Sammi, Steven, and Meghan. YAY! Chedds was delicious (of course) though too rich and warm for such a hot night. Sammi and I both went for sourdough with extra sharp cheddar. It was good to see Sammi. Hanging out around evergreen in the summer gets weird when fewer and fewer of my friends are home for the summer. But still, I'm glad she came back to visit, and that Steve and Meg joined us. I love that no matter how long it has been, or how little we've really kept in touch, there's something about this group of friends that it feels like we just saw each other yesterday every time! I love that. Sammi and I were talking on the way home about how that's how friendships should be. The most natural friends it shouldn't matter how much time has passed, or how much we've all changed, we still enjoy each other and are happy to see each other again. I hope things stay that way with all the friends I just left after graduation, like, Julia, Heather, Dan, Bryce, and Bryan. I think so.
Anyway, we also saw wall.e, which was adorable. I mean, Sammi was right that nothing much happened, but it was still really enjoyable and (like most movies) I got really into it. I liked that the love interest girl robot wasn't like a sleek cute flirtatious girl robot, and that she instead had a laser gun arm and was initially quite hostile, and basically a hero helping save earth.
After the movie we dashed back to Chedd's to check that Sammi's car hadn't been towed, and then stood outside (such nice weather) talking because we weren't really ready to all part ways quite yet, but not up for hitting a bar (or more realistically for us, a bookstore- we discussed maybe going to the Tattered Cover). Steven was absurdly animated in conversation, as always. "sasuga steve!" as he might say. What a nice end to the evening.
ELEPHANT PAINTING AN ELEPHANT!
