I think a sign of a good vacation is really feeling like you've been gone. A week has passed and it feels like that...and I feel like I'm 25 now :) Maybe it was the independence of travelling on my own, or renting my first car, or just being disconnected from the world for a while...but I have just had the most wonderful week. I don't think I can begin to write everything down here in LJ. I did a lot of writing while I was in Hawaii. I have almost filled up my journal that I started in the beginning of this year. It makes me happy to fill a journal - especially for such a year of change. I can always look back through this journal and revisit this time in my life. That's what I like about paper journals...it's like these little personal novels that sit on your shelf...rather than floating out there in cyberspace. But I do enjoy Live Journal...I've met some great people through it - and this week in Hawaii was no exception.

Through moosebraying, my sister's (dharmabumx) boyfriend, I met curryn and sampo23 while I was in Hawaii. curryn was kind enough to pick me up from the airport and give me a little tour right when I got on the island. It was fun - we went for a short hike and saw a waterfall, and then he took me up to a great lookout point. I was so giddy when I first got there, I couldn't believe I was there! The water was so blue, the sky was so clear - the air I breathed was so much better than the air here in LA. I want to thank curryn for the dinner cruise too - that was so nice of you. And thank you to sampo23 for hanging out...now that I've heard your story, I guess it's okay that you like the number 23 as well. I guess we can share :) If either of you pass through LA definitely give me a call and I'll take you out on the town.

Instead of going in to all of the details - I think I'll make a list to highlight some of the memorable parts of the week in Hawaii...

Vacation is:
- waking up whenever you feel like it
- spending the day on the beach and not feeling guilty about how lazy you have been all day :)
- driving around an island in your first rental car (a vw jetta :)
- being able to stop on the side of the road, take off your flip flops and walk right in to the ocean
- wearing flip flops all week
- drinking drinks with little umbrellas in them and slices of pineapple on the side
- eating fresh fish all week long
- stopping on the side of the road at a little shrimp shack to have some peel & eat shrimp...mmmmmmm...
- learning how to surf (and having several hot firefighter men be your teachers :)
- falling asleep to the sound of the waves crashing outside of your room
- waking up to the sun streaming in your room and dancing around the room with your ipod :)
- feeling like you have the entire beach to yourself
- big fluffy beds and tons of pillows on a king size bed...a king size bed that you get all to yourself!
- room service...macadamia nut pancakes, a side of bacon, and a glass of OJ
- receiving your first massage and coming out all relaxed to find that your parents paid for it :) happy birthday!
- receiving a fresh fruit basket for my birthday
- meeting new people and having a blast with them on your last night in town
- hiking up Diamond Head to see the sunset
- hot tubs
- sunrises and sunsets on the beach
- driving around an island until you find the perfect beach to stop at
- smiling...a lot
- coming home with some color :)

It was rough to return to rain when I left the sunshine in Hawaii...but i am back now...my suitcase has exploded and I have sand in my apartment :)

I had the best time...now I need to figure out how to fit a surfboard in my beetle....hmmmm, roof rack? I definitely need to surf again :)

time to be somewhat productive...
