Sneaking Out | Tea Party
The Gryffindor Common Room was dark, but only a First Year wouldn't know how to traverse the space in the pitch black. There was a thumping against the south wall, followed by a shadow on the stairs. Minerva peeked her head around the corner, trying to keep any of the portraits from seeing her.
"Mary," she whispered into the Common Room, hoping her best friend hadn't gone through with the insane plan she'd mentioned at lunch. Maybe she was just in the bathroom, though Minerva doubted it was that simple. "Mary Poppins!" she whispered again.
Suddenly, a head popped out from behind a bookshelf. "Go back to bed, Minnie."
"Don't go, Mary. If you get caught-"
"I won't get caught, Minnie," came an exasperated sigh. "Go back upstairs." With that, Mary disappeared into the secret tunnel in the wall.
Minerva stared into the darkness for a few moments and then shifted. "Mary?" she called out. "Oh, Mary," she sighed, then darted down the rest of the steps, fully-dressed, and bolted across the Common Room, to the hole Mary had disappeared into.
