Rebecca was back in the kitchen, continuing her task of preparing dinner, while Lilian continued to stare at the painting. She hadn't expected so many emotions to come rushing back so quickly, and was, actually, quite embarrassed.

Hearing the noises coming from the kitchen, Lilian finally turned and sighed. "So," she started, moving back to her seat and wine glass, "when do they go on display?" The collection, she assumed, were going to be displayed in some local gallery.

Rebecca made a face as she glanced toward the painting and shrugged. "That one's spoken for," she said simply, turning to place the peppers in the frying pan. "But, the others," she continued, reaching for a spatula as the vegetables started sizzling, "I don't know. Sometime." She glanced over one shoulder and smiled. "I have a friend with a gallery. When she's got an opening, maybe."

Lilian smiled, assuming that the painting of the two of them was going to Rebecca's father. It was a copy of one of his favorite photographs, after all.

There was a knock at the door, which caused both women to turn. "Can you?" Rebecca asked, motioning to the frying pan.

"Sure," Lilian replied, pushing herself up from the stool and moving across the loft. Rebecca watched as her mother reached the door, then turned back to the pan and smiled. Lilian pulled the door open and jumped slightly, not expecting to see her husband.

He, however, was smiling brightly.

"Hi," was all she could think to say.

"You look really familiar," he smirked. "Have we met before?"

"Hey, Daddy!" Rebecca called from the kitchen. Lilian glanced over her shoulder for a moment, then turned back to face her husband.

"She didn't tell you I was coming for dinner," he assumed, based on the look on her face.

Lilian sighed heavily and stepped back, motioning for him to enter. He smirked again and leaned to give her a quick kiss on the cheek. "Hey, Red," he whispered. Turning as he passed her, Lilian closed her eyes and took a deep breath. He looked really good, and it had been a long time since she'd seen him.

"So," he asked Rebecca as he reached the counter. Rebecca used the spatula to point toward the painting, and he moved further into the apartment. "Oh, kid.. that's great." He caught Lilian's eye and pointed to the painting. "Have you seen this?"

Lilian smiled and nodded. "Yes, I have."

He twisted to look back to their daughter. "Did she like it?"

Rebecca made a face, then nodded. "I think she liked it." She gave a smile to Lilian and turned back to dinner. Lilian moved over to stand next to her husband and eyed the painting again.

"I did like," she told him, staring at his profile for a moment, until he started to look at her. She felt like a teenager for a moment, quickly turning away and hoping she didn't blush. "So..." she started, "how are you?"

"Oh," he said, puffing his cheeks for a moment. "pretty good. Strangest thing," he continued, shaking his head. "My daughter showed up at my house. Said her mother was in town and told her to leave. No explanation, whatsoever." He made a face and shook his head.

Lilian mimicked his disbelief and shook her head. "Strange, indeed." He was used to her secretive nature, though, so he knew enough not to ask for more details.

"Lookin' good, Red," he finally said, staring at her for a few moments.

Lilian smiled and gave him a slight nod. "You need a haircut." He sighed and shook his head, then turned toward Rebecca.

"Honeymoon's over. She's pickin' on my hair," he announced. Rebecca said nothing, but Lilian could see her smiling.
