He stares at the plank of wood, trying to process what he's seeing. The letters are there, spelling out her name. The ground beneath him has clearly been disturbed, and it hasn't been long enough to resettle.
Two months.
Two months ago, would she come running out of the rundown cabin she's now forever beside?
He doesn't believe it; he can't. He needs to start digging, right now, to prove she's not there.
It's a trick, a horrible trick.
He knows, though, it's not.
He saw the image.
He lets out the breath he's holding and leans forward.
'Forgive me...'
