"What did you wish for?" Mommy asks after I’ve blown out the six candles. She asks this question every year and I always shake my head telling her, "I can’t say or it won’t come true."
I only have the one wish (for Mommy, not for myself) and when the door bell rings I get this sensational feeling that today’s the day my wish will finally be granted.
Excited, I follow her to the door but when I hear my aunt’s name and see the sad look in the man’s eyes, my heart sinks and I know that sometimes it doesn’t matter if you keep wishes a secret.
