Welcome back to LJ. Interesting post. AS one of my friends put it about gasoline, "The faster we use it up, the faster humanity will be forced to find alternatives". I wonder if there's a conveniently cynical explination like this for plastics ?!

Yes, I think so. Unless ofcourse in the process of finishing it off we ruin what we have.

Am planning to start posting regularly. At least once a week.

Yes, V'mov, like someone says in the "The Graduate" - the future is plastic.. There's really no escaping it, and short of moving to a remote island and fending for yourself, precious little we can do avoid being a part of the problem..

I guess the only defence is to also be a part of the solution.. Like taking your own bag while going shopping, or actually trying to find a sustainable alternative to plastic. Bombay's banned plastic bags - it's a start..

Yes it is true. Although I wish supermarkets and other businesses would invest some time and money in providing us with alternate solutions so that we didnt have to try to hard to be part of the solution.

For know I will try and be creative with this problem at hand.

How about asking for paper bags at the store and then using those bags to line shelves, as scrap paper to write notes and so on ....... and then recycling them ?

It came as a huge shock to me when I saw the amount of plastic bags used in the States. You have little towns and cities in India with designated 'Plastic -free' zones and I'd guess ONE shopping mall in the US uses up more plastic than any average city back home.
Makes one wonder why these developed countries don't even make an effort to try to reduce their plastic.

Anyway, I came across your blog while clicking on some random (well, not so random) links.
May I add you on?
