Until the end

"What you have to consider," he says, "is the possibility that God doesn't like you. Could be, God hates us. This is not the worst thing that can happen."  God's hate is better than His indifference.

“I know what you’ve done”

Zack’s voice was nonchalant as I poured steaming coffee in his mug.

“Come again?”

Well that was a 2x4 I wasn't expecting this morning. Damn... But god, I love your writing. I love how you went back and forth without it feeling like a flashback, without it brick-walling me as a reader. I love how his memory interwove itself into the conversation. I absolutely loved the confrontation as a whole, how calm it was and how chilling. You could feel Matt's heart breaking...

Breathtaking. :)

Wow. So many praises...I'm ashamed. I'm glad you liked it dear, it means a lot. I'm also very happy that the flashback part didn't appear too much out of place.

A question, though? What's a 2x4? *looks confused*

A 2x4 is a beam of wood used in construction. It's just a reference to getting hit with something hard and heavy that will cause pain. :)

Go ahead, break my heart why don't you? *sob* Seriously, I could completely feel my heart breaking bit by bit as I read this.

You almost make me feel sorry for Matt in the end... almost. But then, he doesn't really feel any guiltier than Brian, does he? I mean, he's upset and embarrassed about being caught. He's sorry about hurting Zacky and I'm sure he'll regret losing his friend. But the sex? No, he isn't sorry for that at all. You can tell from the memories. They aren't tinged with regret, they're only tinged with lust, and I have to think that, despite everything, Matt would probably go there again given the opportunity. So I can't quite feel sorry for him.

Zacky, on the other hand, I'm absolutely devastated for Zacky. He handles it so incredibly well, with such grace and aplomb. No scene, no screaming, no remonstrations of any kind. Just facts. Cold, hard facts and consequences for actions taken. Consequences earned, but heart-breaking nonetheless. Of all the betrayals, that of your best friend has to be the worst -- worse even ( ... )

*hugs tightly*

Don't be sad, dear. I didn't mean to hurt you! I swear.

To be honest, I don't feel all that sorry for Matt too (and that is painful, 'cuz he's my baby), I just had to write him down that way. He perfectly knows what damage he has done, he's just not prepared for the consequences. A lifetime commitment ruined because you can't keep it in your pants. That's downright stupid, but people sometimes do stupid things without realizing.

Zack, yeah, I'm so sorry I had to hurt him so much. But again, it happens. And it hurts. Sooo bad.

"Of all the betrayals, that of your best friend has to be the worst". You have no idea of how right you are. The devastating feeling of disappointment you get when you realize that the person you trust the most, you love the most, you confide in the most has done something like that to you...I wouldn't want anyone to know that kind of pain.

Thank you. And I mean that deeply too.

Really really wonderful piece of work here. The ebb and flow of it as a whole is quite stunning. I agree with corruptinnocent. The two parts interwove seamlessly, like a wicker basket of awesome.

And so sad! Poor Zacky for what he knows, and poor Matt for clearly knowing better, going through with it, and the result that occurs. These two lines in particular were a complete poop pie to the face: “I couldn’t do that to you. But you already know that.” and “After all, you had nothing to lose. Besides me, that is.”

Wonderful job!

Thank you so much for the compliments on the style.

It's sad, I know. But Matt should have seen it coming. And he totally deserved every last bit of it.
