My bike odometer ticked over 25000 miles sometime before the new year. It's kind of amusing thinking that I've cycled the equivalent of once about the earth. Granted not anything like to the
moon and back. But not bad for someone who has been very very overweight for most of their life

I'm off the bike again because of a reversion to carpool duty. Being at home & having to take care of younger siblings is deleterious to cycling where/when you want. Responsibility takes away a fair amount of independence.
As far as cycling role-models, I was always more taken by the British working-class "get on yer bike" mentality....the grannies going to sunday morning services on creaking Raleigh 20s, and so forth.

I have partaken of some of that mentality. Now when I cycle to work it's not instead of driving, it's just how I get there. But I know I'm really a bike fetishist in comparison.
Speaking of cycling to work, we're having record rains here. Lots and lots and lots of rain. I bought a pair of rubber overboots and cut out some sole for my cycling cleats. They are the bomb. I cycled to work yesterday in a deluge and other than some dampness near my ankle, my feet were toasty warm and dry. Mmmmmm.
I'll post an entry later about my uber-fredliness. With pics!

The British army seems to have surplused an assload of them, since my local surplus/paramilitary store had them by the crate last month.
