Ride a bike, ride a bike, ride a bike.

On a more bicycle related note, I replaced my derailleur, derailleur cable, chain and fixed my spokes on my rear wheel. The index shifting is precisely on now, doesn't squeak, and is marvelous. Of course, now I realize that one of my freehub pawls is sticking, so I need to get the thing opened up and flushed out. Which I'll have to have a shop ( Read more... )

nice to be able to ride again, eh?

The farthest I ride these days is the pub, when it's warm.

Well, I did still cycle Friday, I just took the grocery bike in. I popped off the rack and baskets and attached my Carradice bag bracket. It sort of sucked, but it worked ok.

Does that weather suck that much, or is work/life conspiring against cycling?

work certainly takes a huge bite out of it. I have to lug hundreds of pounds of photo equipment to fairly distant locations at early hours of the morning. It's not a bikeable job by any measure.

Strangely, my hours make me overlap some of my town's more dogged year-round cyclecommuters, and I have to say, I've envied them tremendously.

We've also gotten a lot of snow (well, a lot for NoVA, anyway) which makes cycling a less than optimal mode of transport.

I'm looking for work that'll let me ride more, but not finding much, presently. I should also probably start wrenching & getting my little bro's bike in order: his old 10-speed will need some looking-after (getting rid of the pieplate spoke protector that seems to be impeding the freewheel's...uh...freewheeling... and the usual looking after cables & suchlike). He's a big boy now, and much more fit than I, and so I'd like to take him out on saturday outings, once the weather turns warm and the days get a bit longer.

*sigh*
