Here's my take on popular music:

There is good popular music and shit popular music. Unfortunately there is more shit popular music than good popular music. 90% of the people out there are stupid and have shit tastes. Those people have money. Record companies want that money. So 90% of the bands record companies sign have sounds that cater to said stupid people.

And now for the indie scene that a lot of people into:

Again, there is shit indie music and good indie music. Like popular music though, there's a lot more shit than good. A lot of those indie bands are indie because they're shit and can't get a record deal. There are some things I absolutely hate about independent shit. I fucking hate indie music that doesn't even sound like fucking music. You've got some fuckers that just repeatedly strum two strings of their guitar while singing in monotone and they think they're fucking cool as shit. And god forbid some of those fuckers should write lyrics that actually make any god damn sense... Check this out:

They make the music and their music is signed because it sells, people buy it. Its all about money, true the music sucks, but music has to evolve sometime.
