The City on the Edge of Forever is really really amazing. It's definitely my favorite so far.

I now return you to your regularly scheduled programming.

yay, star trek

I really need to get around to seeing that one.

I think I keep on putting it off because I'm afraid that after I see it, I will not like the rest of the show as much.

Yes. The 1st season finale and that episode about the creature attacking the mining operation are pretty good, too, but I think TCotEoF is the best of season one.

I can see how that might happen, where the good episodes set the bar too high for the rest of the show. I tend to be pleasantly surprised when I run across something as good as TCotEoF, and kind of bummed when I run into failtastic episodes like the Alternative Factor, so I guess my expectations are set on the average quality of the show, which is good enough for me to like it even at the average. Of course, now that I've seen TCotEoF and what can potentially be done with the show, I might start getting more bummed if it's the only episode of its quality/kind.

...so... um... I guess that was all just to say that I understand your plight. Alas.

Charlie X, Dagger of the Mind, Corbomite Maneuver, and Balance of Terror are also very good episodes in the first season; the second season starts off very well - Amok Time is in my top ten.

I see we have similar tastes in Star Trek episodes, dad. :P I also really liked Errand of Mercy.

You should also read the original script ... Ellison's original ending was radically changed, against his will.
