Happy Birthday,
photosinensis!
Today, I saw Midnight in Paris,
which I did not know going in was Woody Allen does sci-fi. It's a movie about nostalgia and it's very light, occasionally ridiculous fare, but nonetheless entertaining. Someone with a better art history background than mine might've caught a few more references, though I got most of them. I was pleasantly surprised that I understood most of the French; I thought my skillz had deteriorated much more. I also had major Rachel McAdams hair envy as hers was exactly what I try to do with mine but fail to achieve due to a) frizz and b) not being followed around by a professional stylist.
Anyway. The ensemble cast was great. I especially enjoyed Adrien Brody and Corey Stoll in their roles (and Michael Sheen, and Kathy Bates, etc.), and you'll just have to see it to understand that part. Worthwhile viewing for anyone sick of superhero movies.
Speaking of which! Comics fandom, I SUMMON YOU. I've now seen the Captain America trailer a few times, and I need you to tell me if this story is really as alarming as the trailer makes it seem. Going by the preview, in order to fight a man whose goal is a dominating master race, the US...genetically engineers artificially creates a superhero. I find this hypocrisy disturbing, to say the least, and I'd like to know if this problem is addressed in the original.
The most exciting preview at today's movie was for Anonymous. It could easily be a complete trainwreck, but I can't resist that Elizabethan era porn.
