I feel like it is kind of this open secret that lesbian/queer relationships also involve abuse like hetero relationships - but we are not as appalled when we hear of a woman being hit by her female partner. Like hitting is okay between two social equals, but not okay if one is more socially empowered - i.e. male.
Within my larger social circle it seems that lately I have heard of/been witness to behavior that in htero relationships would be called abuse (physical, emotional...).
But because both participants have vaginas, it's downplayed - in a community of women who would string up a man for the same behavior.
As though women can't abuse other women.
I think it is a byproduct of our education on racism/isms generally - like we reconfigure
racism = prejudice + power
into
abuse = hurtful behavior + power
and since women are all oppressed, we can't abuse each other
Does that make sense?
Also I think social conditioning has primed us to see relationships between vagina-having people as "more emotional" and hurtful behavior between women in a relationship as a natural consequence of that heightened emotionality.
Which is a giant load of crap.
I'm sick of hearing abuse passed off as dyke drama.

Likewise with emotional abuse.

abuse of power is abuse of power regardless. but i'm curious what brought about this observation too.
