On a scale of 0-10, how much do I want one of theseThat would be, oooh, at least a 12. I was literally drooling while I looked through the demos on the Apple website. iPhone rumours have been floating around for years, but the reality actually manages to top the hype (assuming that reality lives up to the demos). Alas and alack, indeed. Plus there's the the question about how it'll be made available. I currently have a work-supplied 'phone, so if it's on the wrong network, that could be a real problem...

What is so exciting about this iPhone? HAven't smart phones been available for ages that combine phones and PDAs (and thus mp3 players too)? I've just had a glance through the site and the only new thing really seems to be the multi-touch display which I am unconvinced about as an input mechanism (though I've not seen any proper mention of how it works).

What is the price tag as well? And given that both my phone and PDA play mp3s I don't think you need to add iPod into the price comparison. Though of course you also don't need to add it in if you already have an iPod which I'm sure you do... :)

The claims to be revolutionary are indeed a little hollow, but the same could be said of the iPod what that first came out. Whilst there are indeed plenty of converged devices out there, they do always seem to be one thing primarily with other functions tacked on. This looks to do a much better job, but we'll have to wait and see. It certainly has way more eye candy and "cool stuff" than anything I've seen :-D

USA pricing: $499 (4Gb) - $599 (8Gb) on a 2 year contract.

I was holding out for the iPhone, but my old Nokia foxed me by breaking too soon.

Still, perhaps by the time it's affordable my PEBL will have bought the farm too.

It certainly looks to be everything I want in a 'phone, but my replacement cycle seems to be based on "when the previous one gets nicked in the cinema"...
