Woke up with a jolt around 5:30 am, realized Alma hadn't put out the trash the night before. Got up reluctantly, pulled on random clothes, dragged trash & yard waste toters out to the curb

I had a day quite similar to yours a week or two ago. Very similar.

How did the crystals work out?

The crystals turned out very nicely. They're small, though. I wish I still had some of that copper sulfate that we were using a couple of years ago, though--that made wonderfully large crystals.
