Help me, Obi-Wan flist!

Mar 01, 2009 14:19

I've been thinking lately about vids, in relation to a broader topic I'm working around in relation to fandom and literature, and I need to see some more! Specifically, I'd like to see some of the best Harry Potter vids. I didn't watch vids at all when I was actively involved in that fandom, and I'm not very vid-literate anyway, but there have to ( Read more... )

In Exchange for Your Tomorrows by lim
For me to rec a Snape vid (not my favourite character) it has to be good, but then I think lim is one of the very best vidders out there.

The Boy Was A Puppet by wistful-fever
This one's Harry-centric, and very moving.

77 more vid recs, in a variety of fandoms here. eta: I'd recommend any and all of these vids, even if you're not in the fandom (some of them I don't know the source material) - these are all vids I think are outstanding.

I hope you enjoy browsing it as much as I enjoyed all the vids I've linked there - there is some really stunning work in fandom.

Thank you - you're so awesome! You're the best fannish enabler ever <3

lim is a genius, isn't she? I hadn't realised she had that HP one tucked away there.

I've recently gotten into vids a bit more, partly courtesy of a lot of sleepless nights, so I look forward to working through your list. Watching beautiful vids from fandoms I don't know makes me hungry for new fandoms, though!

I love your subject line!

But unfortunately, I have nothing to rec as I'm not into fanvids.

Heee, I think I stole it from somewhere.

I was never into vids until recently, but there is some really amazing stuff out there. I can rec you some vids for beginners if you ever fancy trying one out. I'm not very visually oriented, so I'm not into them on the level I'm into fic, but some of the things out there are really beautiful and thought-provoking.

A thousand times yes "In Exchange for Your Tomororows" by Lim, like oxoniensis said.

And I may be doubling up on some of her Delicious recs (except she's not into Snape, so woo! that's where I come in!), but these are a few of my favorites:

High School Never Ends: Snape, you poor bastard.

Child of the Lonliness: Snape, learn to find your way in darkness.

All That I Need: Snape/Evans. This is a constructed vid, using footage from other movies to interpolate story. I don't always dig these, but this one is okay.

Magical Desktops formerly known as Sherbet Lemon's vid page: I am particularly a fan of "Hair" (everybody in HP has crazy hair!) and "Werewolves of London" (Remus, of course. Someone had to do it and they did it pretty well). "Buddy Holly" (H/Hr!! Gasp!) is okay.

Harry Potter Literary Song Videos by Mary S. Van Deusen has many great videos. I particularly like "Joy to the World" (mostly Trio, but more Trevor than any other HP vid I've ever seen, which is so happy), and "Rhymes and Reasons" which is one of the most moving Snape vids ( ... )

Snape Gets His Sexy On: You probably don't want to watch the whole thing, but the first minute or so, or through the first chorus, is pretty fun.

Grey: Snape love for Snape-lovers.

Vids! ♥

I never was in the Harry Potter fandom, so I can't rec you any vids there. :(
But let me know if you want recs for other fandoms as well. Even though I guess you're settled for a while there, courtesy of oxoniensis. xD

Heee, rec away if you have favourites!

Also, you may be able to help me with another query on my mind of late. If a person was interested in maybe dipping a toe into Stargate, where would she start with canon? It is so complicated!

Oh dear. I'm not sure I really qualify for helping you there. But I'll try ( ... )
