Book review: Pullman and Lessing

Jan 12, 2008 15:03

Saturday, Saturday. I had every intention of sleeping through till noon today, as yesterday the cold which has been threatening for weeks finally hit. Predictably, it being the weekend, I woke up at ten. Still, I rebelled against the implication that I should have a productive day and have thus far failed to get out of bed. I've been reading fic ( Read more... )

I loved reading this! Thanks for doing a book review of your own.

And I may need to check out that Lessing book. I read something of hers a long, long time ago and always meant to go back to her.

Hurrah, I'm glad you enjoyed!

I really do recommend Lessing - that book was exceelent. I didn't really cover it in the review, but it's also very much concerned with the position of women in that society, which adds another dimension to the complex web of circumstances that lead to the murder.

I love that icon, btw!

Glad you liked the Zoe and Kaylee icon. :)

You know, I think now that I've never read Doris Lessing and it was instead Doris Grumbach whose work I've read. (I should be able to keep better track of this, given that my partner's name is Doris). I've added "something by Doris Lessing" to my "to read" list. :)

Ooh, I don't know Doris Grumbach. What kind of stuff does she write? (I totally have that kind of issue with authors' names, ahahah.)

I look forward to seeing what you think of Doris Lessing!

Juice does have a multitude of meanings! Just not where you come from, I say. *feels Scottish meanings should not be denied* ;)

You must definitely try to sleep until noon tomorrow, this waking up at 10 on a Saturday is clearly unacceptable!

FOSSICK! I was trying to remember the word this morning and was quite gutted that I couldn't. (I suppose I could have checked our chatlog, but I didn't think of that, hahahahaha.) Woppyaya for fossicking! I have the same laundry-pile-as-wardrobe system, hahhahaha, though I have wittled it down a bit now.

You are very virtuous with all your cleaning stuff, dude. *admires your halo* I think you should totally skive about now.

Pshaw, Scottish meanings. Uppity lot ;p You know what I mean, anyway, ahhaha. I thought it might be that I was the only one thinking 'juice' meant 'stuff from fruit'!

Fossicking about, oh yes. Actually, I should have given Joe Bennett that much credit - it was his book I got in from. Can I just say how much I hate putting away laundry? It is such an evil job - someone really needs to abolish it.

*skives around skivily*
