My mom just finished reading this for the first time. And she's going to get Pterry's Color of Magic from the library.

... I'm so proud of her. *tear*

I read this book for the third time this year and I could easily do it again. It's just one of those books (like Hitchhiker's) that will always be amazing and funny no matter how many times I read it. I'm cautiously excited about the miniseries next year. I'm really hoping they do the material justice because if they play their cards right it could be really amazing.

It totally deserves to be in the same category as Hitchhiker's. So seemingly irreverent but then surprisingly deep! Those Brits know how to do it, man.

And YES re: the miniseries. I have such high hopes -- please don't let us down, folks!

I am (re)listening to the audiobook of this at the moment! And I concur: it is glorious, and it makes for a seriously excellent intro to both authors. I think it may have been one of the first Pratchetts I read...

The audiobook cracks me up. I especially love the bit about the extra page in one of Az's Bibles -- "And the Lord spake unto the angel at the gate and said, 'Where is thy flaming sword?' And the angel replied, 'I had it here a moment ago, lose my own head next.' And the Lord did not ask him again."

All of the British things they refer to -- I so wish I could appreciate those bits more, but I can't, DAMN MY AMERICAN-NESS.
