I have been bum-rushing all my friends to go see it, ideally in a mostly empty theater so you can shout at the characters ("WHAT NO DON'T GO IN THE WOODS")
I'M SO GLAD YOU SAW IT! LET ME FLAIL WITH YOU! :D :D :D
I seriously wanted to go up and hug the projector after I saw it. IT WAS JUST SO FAN-FUCKING-TASTIC. I loved the balance of horror and humor. I loved the characters. I loved the premise. I loved the ending! I loved just everything about it. BEST FILM I'VE SEEN THIS YEAR, BY FAR.
Also, I loved spotting past Jossverse actors as they appeared on screen. Tom Lenk as the intern! His part was small, yet golden. X^D
EVERYTHING WAS PERFECT. I legit tried to think of a moment or character I didn't like and came up totally empty. THAT'S FUCKING UNREAL, ESPECIALLY WITH A HORROR MOVIE. When I saw Tom Lenk I squealed and clapped like a retarded seal and went, "ANDREW! ANDREW!" lololol.
There are people who do not like this movie! I DO NOT KNOW HOW THIS HAPPENS. This was a magical murder-treat in the middle of *nowhere*, and just--[helpless flailing]
I'm not looking at any of the comments because I haven't seen it yet (only theater around that's playing it is AN HOUR AWAY WTF) but as soon as I manage to see this you'll be getting an all-caps Gmail message. :D
I HAVE HEARD NOTHING BUT COMPLETELY AMAZING THINGS ABOUT THIS AND I'M REALLY HOPING THAT IF IT MAKES ENOUGH MONEY OUR THEATER'LL GET IT IN A COUPLE OF WEEKS OR SOMETHING. ***ANTICIPATION***
holy fuuuuuucckkkk I can't get over how much I LOVED this movie. Like you said: just a perfect deconstruction & meta on the entire genre as a whole, explaining away the shitty decisions people make in horror movies ("Let's split up! We'll cover more ground!"), turning the kids into More Than Their Tropes and showing how they had to be shoehorned into their roles (Curt wasn't an alpha male, etc), dropping homages to soooo many different classics... It was this perfect blend of hilarious, dramatic, and fucking touching. Ingenious. The technicians were pitch-perfect (I'm a huge fan of Richard Jenkins from Studio 60 -- and I've always felt that Aaron Sorkin's quick-flying banter writing is v. Whedonesque, so having Jenkins acting in a Whedon-written movie is like the world come full circle!). And there were even, like, elements of The Hunger Games in the glorification of violence, the gory spectacle for the audience -- I felt way more uncomfortable during Cabin's "It's not just for us; we're putting

THE CASTING WAS SO GREAT, I'm in love with all of the students, omfg. And ALL of the company employees, and recognising the Joss familiars :'] Dana's actress was so gorgeous and yet Girl Next Door-y. (And I love that she totally wasn't a virgin. The Director: "Well, we take what we can get." AND OMFG FUCKING INSPIRED CASTING CHOICE FOR THE DIRECTOR, TOO, BTW.)
+ yesssss fucking agreed re: being boggled. I still... don't get it. Because yeah, like you said: if you're a horror fan AT ALL, then wouldn't you appreciate all of the callouts to horror that this movie does, the recognisable staples that it plays with? Plus, it's funny BUT ALSO scary as shit, and it gives you a Standard Horror Movie playing itself out -- and then hands you 123987193821283 other things at the same time. And I keep trying to wrap my mind around the people who would walk out on it. Wouldn't you be so curious to see where it all goes? How it ends? What the fuck they're DOING with it? HOW HOW HOW HOW HOW CAN YOU WALK OUT
( ... )
I'm seriously upset that I haven't seen the actress who played Dana in anything else yet -- she was GORGEOUS and talented.
WHEN YOU HEARD THE DIRECTOR OVER THE SPEAKERS, I TURNED TO MY FRIEND AND WENT, "OMFG IT'S SIGOURNEY WEAVER. THEY GOT THE ULTIMATE GENRE HEAD BITCH TO PLAY THE DIRECTOR." It was like Paul all over again, yessss.
