I'm gonna link that Mary Sue meta in my grab-bag post tomorrow. I read it a few days ago and I was so happy to see someone make a post like that because I've always had that thought in the back of my mind, but I've never been able to articulate it that well.

I must admit I've been guilty of accusing characters of being Mary Sues -- specifically Bella Swan, since she's a shameless self-insert that has NO personality whatsoever. But this writer makes SUCH a good point, I really have to step back and re-evaluate the term and its connotations. It's writing like this that can really change mindsets.
