There are different webpages that are free that can do it. I don't know about their quality though. Just google it.
There's also a program called Cute PDF -- http://www.cutepdf.com/ -- which is what I think I have used before there's a freeware version-- it says you need to download another plugin for it to work though. Lemme try it and see.

Ok, go with Cute PDF. Some of the free in-browser ones will put a watermark on the file-- not something you want on a grad app.
Just download the freeware version write on the mainpage of that link. When it installs it will download the plugin automatically. After it installs, a read me will appear and just follow the instructions.

you can do it directly in Word ! You just have to do like you wanted to print it, and normally, on the window that opens, there is a PDF button at the bottom left, then Save as a PDF

Unfortunately, my Word is from 1995 and has no such option. :^/

oh, poop ! If nothing else, you can copy your text from word, paste it in Photoshop and save as a PDF ^^
