Having never watched an entire episode before last night, the question I came away with was, "So... does this mean that they all actually died in the plane crash, in the first place?"
No. And I can't quite figure out how people read it that way, especially if they've seen more than one episode. The alternate timeline (flash-sideways) of season 6 is the only time all of the characters are dead.
-I've assumed the Others stole children in seasons 1 and 2 to replenish their numbers, since their women were unable to successfully give birth on the island (not sure we ever found out why that was the case

The unsuccessful birth thing, and Juliet's imprisonment is disturbing. Maybe Ben kept people around because Jacob did? Richard was the proxy, and could have encouraged such ideas.
