Indeed, lj is big in Russia. It was acquired by a mostly Russian firm because of its migrating popularity there. Lj even has special features that are only available in Cyrillic fonts. What does that have to do with (D)DOS attacks? Popularity == target.

On a related note, I don't read or speak Russian very well any more. I wish I had kept up with it, though there weren't many good opportunities in my regular life. I think I have mentioned this before, but I had an interesting experience with tried to read through something I saw online. I saw a document I couldn't read, but my eyes focused on one phrase. I didn't know what it was, but it made me apprehensive. I had to sound it out, which is much slower than site reading. The words were "Комитет государственной безопасности", the KGB. Interesting that my brain could not quickly interpret the words, but immediately recognized them on a different level.
