My Uncle Kink is dead. I've been reading the family emails over the last two weeks as he succumbed to the cancer that's been eating him for over a year. I found out a few hours ago and I thought it was fine but I've had a couple of glasses of wine and it's just hit me. God I'm gonna miss this man.

...I need to call my mother.

I'm so sorry, darling. It seems like it's just one thing after the other for you. I wish I could give you a big hug; just know that I'm thinking about you. Are you going to fly home for the funeral?

Thanks, Neve. And yeah, probably, but I don't know when yet. Maybe next weekend. I talked to my mom today (for like TWO HOURS); they're still working out the details. We know Kink's wishes on the subject... he wants his ashes to be taken up to Konahuanui, the highest peak in the Ko'olau Range (the mountains where all my family lives), and placed in the tree where his mother's ashes were left. As far as the public memorial, and whether that will be around the same time as taking his ashes up the mountain, and how many people will be coming up the mountain with, we're not sure. She'll be keeping me posted.
