I thoroughly enjoyed reading all of this. And the pictures! I am jealous. I'm enjoying my fieldwork just fine but there's something about being in the middle of nowhere, catching cool birds and exploring the area, that I kind of miss.

And man, do those `Akala berries look amazing!

Oh man, no kidding, there's nothing like the deep wilderness!

THEY ARE PRETTY TASTY. Not as sweet as their mainland relatives, but plenty delicious if you wait until they are dark, purpley blood-red and juicy. And I mean juicy, the juice goes everywhere and stains EVERYTHING. /so worth it

...Fffffff, I need a honeycreeper icon. :P

You really do have an unique workplace and an exciting job! :D I really like your 'backyard' and the view you have. The slopes of Mauna Kea are such an impressive sight. LOL, the pigs seem to really enjoy annoying their human 'neighbors'! I probably would have jumped out of my skin by now. ;-)

The honeycreepers and the flycatchers are simply gorgeous! I've heard of them before (likely in fanfiction *g*), but never seen pics. The beaks of the honeycreepers are really impressive. O.O

I love Leroy! I can almost hear him scream enthusiastically in that second pic. *g* LOL at the canary! Those raspberries make my mouth water. Yay, geese! Your geese seem to be a lot nicer than ours. We mainly have Canadian geese and Grey Geese here - the Canadian Geese have have taken up residence in several ponds in the middle of our city and by now, they're trying to take over the entire city. ;P

Thank you for sharing the pics with us and telling us so much of your work!

Oh man, there is nothing like the way our shield volcanoes dominate the landscape on this island, they are just so massiveThis really is such a cool place to study birds. They say that if Darwin had come to Hawai'i instead of the Galapagos he would've figured out his Origin of Species a lot faster! ;D One species of finch evolved into dozens of species with unique adaptations, inhabiting different niches. ALSO THEY'RE REALLY PRETTY. :D (Although many of the coolest ones have gone extinct... there were birds whose bills were almost as long as their bodies ( ... )

It's an amazing sight, even on pictures (I wish someone would invent beaming, so I could beam over and have a look :D)!

O.O Now those birds must have looked really impressive!

He sounds like a really funny guy - well, funny and annoying, lol! No thorns? Now I really want to plant them in our forests! Every single small forest around here is almost completely overgrown by raspberries and blackberries grown rampant - every summer, they do their best to destroy my trouser legs. *g* They are definitely politer! Our geese are wreaking havoc on their entire surroundings by now.
