Ugh, so glad things worked out so I was able to do that. T_T

Walp, I was hoping to make a status post/picspam for my life/job so far this spring before vanishing into the wilderness until June, but it's not looking like I'm going to have time for that, although I have started sorting through my pictures. But I think I can manage a quick post about my archaeology weekend ( Read more... )

Ah man, I can't wait for these pictures. Especially of the dig... I'm still super-sad that my harebrained scheme to come out there didn't work out.

Enjoy the bog! ♥

I know! So sad. But as it turned out I wouldn't have been around at all when you would've been here. C'est la vie. Are you going to be able to celebrate 10,000 in some other way, at least?

I SHALL~! :DD

I'm still not sure what's going to happen for day 10000, other than being in LA or thereabouts (or maybe San Fran, if anyone decides to be cool?)... It's probably going to be low-key, because I don't see Peter and Ruomu taking me sky diving or anything, but it might involve a clam bake and the Pacific Ocean, which is still pretty cool by me.

(SF totally cooler than LA, I agree.) Clam bake and the Pacific Ocean sounds nice. I HOPE YOU ARE HAVING AN AWESOME CLAM BAKE.

...And of course, as it turns out, I was around all weekend after all. Stupid stomach flu. :P

I love that there's still so much respect for culture and nature on Hawaii - though I'm sure that's not true for everyone - but it's great it's there at all!

I can't wait to see your pics, both from the dig and the expedition! "Bog in the middle of nowhere" - now that sounds enticing! :D

Yeah, there's always a few people who need to get with the program, but that positive, respectful attitude is pretty widespread. Wasn't always that way... just a few decades ago it was not cool to be Hawaiian and speak the language and practice the culture; it's had a major renaissance since then, and I grew up in it. Like, you don't put in a new building without having a priest bless it and plant some ti around it.

SOUNDS ENTICING TO ME. :DD I am a woman of strange enthusiasms~.

I was watching some episodes of the old H50 lately, and boy have some of those attitudes changed (for the better)! The show has a completely different atmosphere back then, and there's conflict between Hawaiians and haoles and their different views on things everywhere.

It definitely sounds enticing to me, too. *sigh*

Hahaha yeeeeaaahh... had they invented 'politically correct' back then? ...The 70s was not, perhaps, our most glorious decade. I have to admit, Show actually does a really really good job portraying island life authentically, like... 90% of the time. Then there's the rest of the time, when they COMPLETELY FAIL.

From what I heard, they're not having a ton of fun. ...Kinda wish I was there anyway. *SIGH* ...Oh well, long unstructured weekend is kinda nice... although I am already finding it to be Not Long Enough.

(Augh, wish I still had my original!Steve McGarrett icon uploaded!)

I love my life so hard sometimes. I take a weekend break from my job where I hike and camp in the wilderness and play with cute native birds and save the world, and go join an archaeological dig with my mom and uncles. ...WINNING~!
