I hope you appreciate how long it took me to put this post together. Literally days. There are A LOT of pictures. I swear I was trying to be frugal in my selection.
...So, that backpacking trip I went on last week....
Oooh, these are gorgeous. Massive topography! Really neat vegetation! Geese! Jealousy Is it bad that I'm sitting here thinking of which lenses I'd need and which filters I'd bring with me? Darn Chicago's lack of photogenic landscape! (-;
Hahahaha, yeah, Haleakalā's got massive topography in spades. (I actually thought of you several times during the trip, and topography. ^_^) Most of the state, really, is quite dramatically topographical, but Haleakalā, massive, yes.
And some of the COOLEST PLANTS EVER, yes. ...SILVERSWOOOOOOOOOOOORDS~!
Hahahaha no that's totally reasonable. I'm a rank amateur with a camera to match; Uncle Gary's the photographer of the family, and he spent the whole trip lagging behind everyone taking artistic shots with his super-fancy camera (and yes, he's got quite the collection of lenses and filters). I'm really looking forward to his annual batch of art photography greeting cards at Christmas time. :D
OMG I am seconding the gorgeous! These look like they need to be in a photography book on the area- very beautiful. I'm glad you had a great trip! Very stunning landscape and great pics :)
If my pictures are beautiful, it's purely a testament of the grandeur of the scenery... I used the kind of simple, point-and-click camera for people like me who are photography-stupid... you should see this place when someone with proper equipment and skill is recording it! (Or you should see it with your own eyes; highly recommended!)
Zolac no Miko, purveying fine Hawaiian adventures via the internet since 2011~! ...I know most of the people on my Flist will never ever get the chance to see some of the stuff that I have, and I do love so desperately to share my favorite things, so I do hope even a fraction of the famazingess of these places gets through to people. And guh, Haleakalā, seriously one of my favorite places anywhere, ever, I will never get sick of that place, jesus. T_T
WOW. Just wow. I honestly don't have the time or the physical stamina to ever see those things in real life, unless I embark on a serious hiking program, so I'm totally big-eyed at this incredible beauty. And I'd love to see a silversword in bloom with my own eyes some day. We went down there on horseback with a tour once, but it wasn't anywhere near as far as you went. Haleakala has its freaky aspect, too. While standing on the rim the first time I was there, it was as if I could hear this barely-subsonic thrumming. (No, no helicopters in sight!) I could understand why that's where the magic practitioners went for training.
