The ever-wise jmhm has found some interesting things over the past 24 hours that I'd like to bring to your attention. If you're not reading Julia, then you should start.

Have you heard of the Texas Futile Care law? Julia directs us to Mark Kleinman's blog and a couple of cases going on right now:Sun Hudson, a six-month-old boy with a fatal congenital ( Read more... )

I don't know why you think you have to ask. Of course you may.

Zoje - this reminds me - I have long wanted to ask - do you mind if I add you?

And a hearty thank you to both of you. You just made a portion of my day that has been spent on disgust and outrage into "I'm so glad some sane people are paying attention" ...gabi

I don't mind at all. We keep running into each other over at ladyxoc's place anyway.

I am so blind enraged about this thing, and the grotesque invasion of this woman's privacy at the invitation of her PARENTS, that I think I've tweaked my shoulder out again.

Oh, did you know that all of the Schindler's legal bills are being paid by anti-choice groups?

And here's another fun guy from the right who's decided to pop his ugly nose into someone else's business. (Orcinus/Dave Neiwart is a must read. His essay on "The Rise of Pseudo-Fascism" is available in pdf from his site and worth a good long read.)

As someone who's so recently had to live with the consequences of that Talk, had several times over my life with my mother, I am so glad I knew what she wanted. And I'm very glad that she was unsentimental and unsqueamish enough to tell us that she wanted to be an organ donor and exactly what she meant by that. I've lost my mum, but at least six people have a better quality of life because of her attitude. So those of you who are reading here and thinking about that: factor that in. It was so important to know when they asked us.

We had already had The Talk, along with other talks about who gets our stuff when we're gone, that we both are organ donors, and that we both want to be cremated and who cares about the ashes. Make soap if you wish. Recycle me.

I need to have a similar talk with my parents, about their wishes as well as ours. Getting on that, they'll be here next weekend.

And the flagrant hypocrisy of all this and the blinders of the sheep are infuriating and depressing. Sometimes I want to fight and scream and make it clear we're not fooled. Other times I just want to hide under a rock somewhere until it all goes away. Unfortunately, without the action it won't be going away.

Thanks for pulling it all together.

Thanks, but it's not me so much. I'm just picking up the gleanings from jmhm, No More Mister Nice Blog, Alas, A Blog and Dr Rivka, for those who don't read them already. Julia's written a couple of scorchers in the past few days.

I read Julia, so I'd seen some of this before and even followed the links. She's awesome.

Am now checking out the others that I haven't gotten to yet.
