That looks very good - and definitely not in need of cream. I was brought up with Heinz canned tomato soup, and, on the basis of that, didn't eat tomato soup for ages. So it took a few years, but I was *amazed* when I encountered the world of the real stuff.
Yeah, I grew up on Campbell's tomato soup, and when I started making my own, even from tinned tomatoes, it was a world of difference.
Thomas Keller really goes all out with his tomato consomme and cheddar sandwiches. I will try to make it sometime. Hey, he uses Early Girls, it must be good!
I've recently begun making a pureed tomato soup from diced canned tomatoes, some carrots, and fresh basil. I can't get enough of the stuff. I hadn't considered a roue to thicken, though. Hadn't thought about a pepper, either.
And yeah, I don't know what Campbell was thinking, but being raised on that stuff put me off of soups entirely as a grown-up. But now? Hah! The soups I make. :)
