I finished knitting the Big Bad Baby Blanket for my friend R just this morning!
Really, why could I not have found
that yarn stall months and months ago?
Anyway, I've got a load of yarn leftover from it, so I decided to knit one of the bears the blogger in the above link was knitting. It's an easy pattern and I know Diep's kind of thinking, "Huh, why's she making something for Ms R and she didn't make anything for my baby?"
As I was knitting here and starting on the second leg of the bear I thought to myself, "This is a
really easy pattern. I could knit a bunch of these."
And then, "Hey, Mme Chau and Diep work with ORPHANS. I was just looking at pictures of them today as Mme Chau was putting some profiles together. Most of those kids have some sort of disability, often correctable if they're lucky and get adopted by an American family -- which is what Mme Chau does, she facilitates the VN end of the adoptions -- but most of them will spend their lives in the orphanages. What if I knit a bunch and gave them to Mme Chau and Diep?"
And THEN I thought, "What if I asked the awesome people on my f'list, many of whom knit, many of whom probably have stash full of several small bundles of yarn just big enough to make a bear or two, what if one or two of them would like to knit some bears for kids in Viet Nam?"
So I'm askin'. Would you like to knit some bears for orphans and disabled kids in Viet Nam?
Even if Mme Chau can't give them to the orphans*, I know that the
Saigon Association of Women or
Saigon Children's Charity would appreciate them for their younger charges.
Or
the Mother Bear Project itself!
Anyone wanna knit a bear?
*I haven't asked her yet. I just thought of this tonight and I won't see her again until Thursday evening.
