Recs: Portable RPG-type games?

Now that I have finished Sands of Destruction (overall verdict: meh), I need something to while away the time before SMT: Strange Journey comes out. So, bearing in mind that my back is bothering me too much to sit on the couch and play anything on the consoles, and given that I have the approximate manual dexterity of a... thing without hands (and ( Read more... )

videogames: general, help me?

Ok, if you couldn't guess my vote - FFT! Calculator! I've told you about inflicting 400+ damage on the chapter 2 closing boss with arithmetic skill, Holy, and arcane strength, right? (To put this in perspective, my level 80 mage Ramza had fewer than 400 HP, the party that did this was about level 20 - same level as the enemies, and the boss had around 600 HP total.)

I still have vague dreams of getting a DS and playing FF3 with someone, but they're still dreams right now. The sprites are cute and the game isn't particularly difficult (until you get closer to the end, at least).

Oooh, or Fluffy♥! Always room for Fluffy♥.

Niiiice.

Chapter 2 is basically the halfway point, right? I keep thinking "chapter" = "battle," for some reason.

I've heard that FF3's last dungeon is nasty because of the lack of save points; if you die to the final boss, you get to do the whole dungeon over again, which... yeah. If I remember correctly, it's a long dungeon, too.

"Heartwarming story of a family"! I love the hellhound class.

Well, there are four chapters, but I think of Chapter 1 as the warm-up and Chapter 3 as the main one. I'm not really sure where my brain has decided the halfway point should be, but probably when Eagrose Castle is designated as the next story battle. Anyone who doesn't break off from the story to prep for that is either ridiculously over-leveled (which, I should point out, is not enough to save you) or has already spent the entire game leading up to that point in preparation. (By the way, Ultima Demons will always dodge Holy, but can be hit with Flare.)

:) I should really have more monsters in my Disgaea 2 party. I think I decided that I should make them healers first, before turning them into prinnies and then monsters. I'm not leveling up six skulls and mages, so I didn't make any "walking targets."

Ah, I see. What's a good training strategy for a Calculator, then?

Well, monsters weren't all that useful in Disgaea 1, so that's kind of understandable. The magichange ability makes them more useful in D2, from what I've heard, but you need to go through Axel's route to access it, which I haven't done yet; I'm debating restarting so I can do this.

Holy Dragons, if I remember correctly, learn at least one healing ability, but I can't remember offhand what its range is. (I know they learn one, but I can't remember if they learn more.)
