So our wee beasty is 10 weeks old this week. Turns out, he's a super easy-going baby. Smiles a lot, burbles, then burbles urgently for a time before reverting to crying and so far, he's always clear what he's crying about even if we can't fix it (this would be reference to the car seat which must surely be lined with broken glass and pins judging ( Read more... )

your "good mother" comment caught my eye kareina June 25 2014, 20:14:33 UTC
From what I have read, for a rather large chunk of not so distant human history most people lived on some sort of a farm and duties to keep the household running and food on the were largely gender-split. In those days cooking was necessary if one wanted to eat, and mothers tended to put down and leave alone their children fairly often over the course of the day so that they could attend to their duties to the household. Given your comments about your child spending pretty much zero time alone on his back, combined with your "I feel like a good mom", I wonder if you would consider people in the above described historical settings to be "bad moms" because they opted to do stuff for the house instead of keeping the baby company all the time.

Nope - they were being the best moms they could be given their circumstances. I feel like I'm also being the best mom I can. Also, they could defeat sabre-toothed tigers with their cooking spoons so they might have an edge.

Hey there :)
I think you're doing amazingly. Being a mother, especially to a little one, is the hardest job there is. Fact.

I saw your post about breastfeeding, tried to comment, and was blocked. Now the post itself is invisible to me. You've blocked me?

Anyway, just wanted to say that I think you're doing amazingly. Pushing through the struggles is so hard. I did okay while on maternity leave, but after going back to work my body packed up shop. I pumped and pumped and it was so soul destroying. I kept it up for a few months with now-8yo but with now-6yo I went on to formula as soon as I went back to work. Bugger that for a lark, a totally stressed out mother is hardly good for baby either, so fight the battles you can actually win.

Keep well :) and lots of love to the family.

Haha - not at all. I just removed it so I could craft it a little more before reposting it.

It is pretty soul destroying - much harder emotionally than I was expecting.
