Nate was casually minding his own business when a blur of pink ran past him. Instead of heading into the coffee shop, curiosity got the better of him. He turned the corner and stopped in his tracks.
"Did I just witness a felon? This seems like pretty serious business."
"Then you better make it worth it," he said, catching up to her. He shifted the heart from one arm to another. It was probably the most awkward thing he had ever carried. "After all, this could be my last day as a free man."
Completely unphased, Zoey waved a hand. "The adrenaline rush will have to do. "
When they reached a corner, Zoey tilted her head before they crossed the street. "Unless you have something in mind?" Sure, Zoey was on the edge of flirting, but flirting with Nate was basically second nature at this point.
"You're confusing me with someone. My bright ideas usually involved a lot of yelling and hair pulling." Which actually sounded kind of interesting if taken out of context.
"Put that in the right context and it might be enough of a reward for destruction of private property." Zoey laughed quietly, shamelessly, and leaned over to tap her shoulder against Nate's.
She was a bit too short so it was actually just his arm, but the she figured the intent was obvious.
If it had been anyone else, Nate would have blushed or over analyzed the offer. Though with Zoey, Nate grinned and tapped her back lightly with his elbow.
"You're making this life of crime sound better and better," he said, a grin spreading across his lips.
"It's my major contribution to society," she shrugged. The concept of making a life of crime sound good and the fact she wanted to be a barrister nearly made Zoey giggle.
They were just getting to campus, which was mostly deserted since everyone was still away on hols.
"Right then!" Zoey practically bounced on her toes, but she resisted because she would never let herself be that ridiculous. "Center of the quad, yeah?"
"Naturally," he said, picking up his pace. Nate's strides were long and he kept his eye on Zoey, making sure she was keeping up. Her excitement kept the smile on his face.
"The fire will be nice. My fingers are bloody frozen."
She might be small, but she was fast. Dancing had to pay off somewhere in real life, after all.
"That's why you get a little something called gloves, Nate," Zoey laughed.
When they reached the quad, she glanced around and already knew she wouldn't see anyone. "This is going to be very anti-climatic, but whatever." She motioned toward a spot that wasn't covered in snow and happened to be on concrete.
"I was going to get a coffee to warm me up," he reminded her, giving her a knowing look. Though, this was way more interesting than the afternoon he had planned.
"Well, we'll just have to make fireworks." With out warning Nate pulled out his wand and sent off a few sparks into the air.
Zoey was almost startled since he did it so quickly, but then she was laughing too hard for it to matter.
Of course, she couldn't let Nate have all the fun so he pulled her wand out and followed suit. Plus, there was a giant heart to burn. She took it from him, tossed it where it wasn't likely to burn down a building and didn't have to do anything else. The sparks from the fireworks took care of it.
"Okay, seriously, tell me this isn't more fun than coffee and I'll...I don't know. But it doesn't matter, because it's not true."
"You'll do what?" he asked, moving towards her. Nate enjoyed watching Zoey look so happy. It was easy to forget that magic could be fun. When he was a kid he always dreamed about doing things like this.

"You were always the one with the bright ideas," he countered.

True to form, she smirked instead.
"What's your major contribution lately, huh?"

Nate spun the heart around in his hands and looked over to lock eyes with Zoey.

"Oh, really? I'm going to hold you to that, you realize?" She skipped ahead a step to walk backwards in front of him."I'm all interested now."
