*snort*

I never ever want to post a WIP because I'm an inveterate tinkerer and am constantly going back and changing what came before. I can't even imagine the desire--so tell me, what's the appeal? :-)

ugh I'm afraid of the tinkering too! that's what's holding me back - I think the appeal is getting some feedback that's more like cheerleading when you're in that middle slog? where you hate your plot, hate all the stuff you're doing and just don't know if you want to finish....

Oh, I know that feeling well! Problem is, when I give something like that out to read, a small part of me feels as though I've finished it, you know? And I lose momentum.

I end up tapping a couple of trusted people as content readers when I get super-down on a story. I realize I have no objectivity anymore. Sadly, that is happening more frequently than usual, so I get where you're coming from, just by different means.

Noooooooo don't post to AO3 because then I'll be even MORE tempted to read, and I swore to myself I wouldn't read any WIPs ever again!! *HIDES*

XD

That said, I'm thrilled you're having fun writing your story. :D :D :D I cannot wait to read it, one way or another!

I'M STAYING STRONG! mostly because, as noted above by sgamadison, THE TINKERING. I might need to tinker the plot a bit when I finally figure out who the killer is!

that and I have to, yanno, figure out who the killer is! lol

So glad you're having fun! I debated about volunteering but I have several fest fics that can't be written in public due in November and early December...

And I've been avoiding most of the WIP because I have a ton of writing to do!

Good job!

It's true, right? It's hard to avoid other WIPs when they sound really good but haven't we all had our heart broken by them at some point?

Yeah, I have this one WIP that went a year between updates the last time I updated, and who knows when I'm updating again? So clearly I shouldn't post WIPs. Except it's hard to write continually in a vacuum.

So I feel your pain. :)

It is hard to write in a vacuum! but then again, maybe it's better because then you aren't swayed by anyone eles's opinion but your own!
so far, I'm staying strong! no posting to AO3!

I've yet to have a reader sway me. I might make something more clear if I get a ton of "omg this is so cute" comments when I'm planning on, like, killing a baby before the end of the fic. But I've yet to change an ending or major element due to reader demand.

Sometimes I write little excerpts from fic I'm not going to write or very short things for various memes to kinda get that energy out/get comments to encourage my will to live, so I can then keep trucking on the big projects.

Oh, that's a good idea! Small fic! I'm going to be on the lookout for small plot bunnies!

YOU CAN DO IT BB. You're going to finish and post and it'll be awesome.

I should be beta'ing this fic and writing myself, but I fail.

Any time you want cheerleading, I'm here :P
