PART FOUR Surrounded by light, Naomi smiled, content. Emily was at her side, her hand stroking the veins on her wrist with a loving thumb.
Content.
“Morning.”
Naomi forced her eyes open, the mind leaving the heaven of her dream only to wake up to another one, one were the object of her dream was hovering above her, a look of complete adoration on her face.
“You're so cute when you sleep, you know.”
Naomi scrunched up her nose at the compliment, but accepted the sweet kiss that Emily placed on her lips as she gently let the weight of her body off her arms and rested it along the length of Naomi’s body, separated only by the duvet she had draped over her.
As always, their lips moved together in complete sync, Emily softly rubbing her tongue along the length of Naomi’s lips, waiting long enough for Naomi to open her mouth before pulling away.
Closing her eyes and taking a deep calming breath, Naomi opened her eyes and glared at her girlfriend. “Tease.”
Emily giggled, pushing herself up and moving towards Naomi’s dresser where she grabbed a bowl of what Naomi knew to be French vanilla yoghurt, rolled oats and fresh raspberries. “I take it back,” Naomi said, “You’re a queen. I love you.”
Emily grinned, walking slowly over to the bed again as Naomi pushed herself up and propped herself there with the pillows. They shared breakfast, as usual, both eating from the same bowl, something Gina thanked them for, saying she only signed on for one kid, but smiling as she said it.
As usual, Kieran poked his head in, his eyes closed, before he left for his last day of work before the holidays.
“So...” Naomi said, putting the bowl to the side before she turned to face her girlfriend again, “What’s on today? Any plans?”
Emily shook her head, “We’re set to meet Katie later, but that’s not till four.”
“So... we’re free till then, then?”
A grin sprouted from Emily, and she looked to the door, “Where’s Gina?”
Before answering, Naomi pounced, pushing Emily back and resting her full weight on Emily’s body, pushing down in all the right places. “Protest,” she muttered as her lips met Emily’s, and all other thought left both of them.
It was well after mid-day before they left Naomi’s bed, after two before they left Naomi’s house. “Where are we meeting Katie?”
Emily took Naomi’s hand as they walked before answering, “She’s with Cook now, she said she wanted to go home and change before we took off so... my house?”
Naomi groaned. She truly hated visiting Emily’s house, and she knew no one could blame her for that considering how she had been treated the last time she had been inside those walls. She often met Emily and Rob at a cafe, Rob determined to get to know the girl who would be spending her life with his daughter, but she not been back inside the Fitch residence since the night she had been thrown out of there by Emily’s mother.
“Do I have to?” she asked, “Can't Katie just meet us... at the park? We can make-out by the fountain till she shows.”
Emily didn't even look at her, smiling, “Well... actually, I need to tell you something about that.”
Naomi frowned, not understanding Emily’s sudden happiness.
“I meant to tell you this morning but... you distracted me. Mum’s gone.” Naomi gaped, “I know, I shouldn’t sound so happy but... Dad he... he told her that he couldn't be with her anymore, that she wasn’t the woman he once loved. He offered to leave but she did, packed her bags after graduation and took off. Katie talked to her, so she’s fine, in a hotel somewhere, asked us to give her some time but that she wanted me and Katie to come and visit her, and James.”
Still gaping, Naomi once again, gasped. “So... you're alright with it?”
Emily nodded, still smiling, “Dad has been... the best when it comes to us, meeting us in secret and everything, but as it turns out, we weren’t their only problem. Before you came along there was this other guy at Mum’s work, apparently he had been spending a little too much time with mum and dad was getting really jealous. Well that all went out the window when you came along and mum started spending all her time in church right, and we thought it was just because of me being gay. Wrong. This guy well he’s a main something or other at this church so all the time mum’s been at church praying for god to save me, well she’s also been shagging this guy.
“Dad found out and now, kaput. It’s over. Dad deserves better anyway, and we’re old enough to understand what’s going on and James is old enough to decide who he wants to stay with. Shock, he chose dad.”
Gasp.
Emily giggled, leaning in to kiss her girlfriend, “Want to finally christen my bed, before Katie gets home?”
*~*~*
Edward Cullen was a smart man, had been long before he became an immortal, and his constant re-education let him keep up with modern developments and new technologies. It was this skill that helped him when it came to his current task.
The internet, he revelled in it.
Back in Forks it took him only three hours to discover the plane manifest which clearly showed the names of his sisters, Rosalie Hale and Alice Cullen even after three years. It was newspaper articles which lead him to Bristol, to Fairfield Park just before dusk.
And so he waited. He knew, deep inside him that they would come, he knew their feeding patterns, all their moves. He knew them better then they knew themselves, could literally read their thoughts.
It was well dark before he could even smell them. They were a long way off when he caught a wif of them, but he could hear Alice’s thoughts even from that distance.
What’s wrong with you Alice? Feed, that’s what we live for, feeding. So feed, no more backing out.
Feed.
You're a predator for fuck’s sake. So feed.
Rose came in loud and clear soon enough.
She has to feed. She didn’t touch a human the whole time she was with Bella, she’s starved. And then... she was just a girl, a girl that would have been so easy to take. Was it the smell? The devotion, the love? Was it because she was loved that she didn’t want to end her, because she couldn't hurt anyone, the girls love like she’s hurting? Or was it her did she act too much like Bella did, her reactions, her behaviour, she was so familiar, so Bella. Why?
She has to feed. Tonight.
And then, at the same time, he heard it like it was whispered in his ear, and he knew he had to take flight. To chase.
They both thought: Edward.
They had smelt him.
Edward knew that he was faster, Rose and Alice knew it too, because the used their knowledge of the city to hide rather than their speed to outrun him.
To pedestrians out for a late night stroll they would have momentarily thought that they had something in their eyes, causing it to blur, like smoke as the three vampires shot past them, not moving a hair on their bodies in the passing. Edward kept up, catching them with each moment, weaving through streets and people as they ran across the city.
He heard it from Alice but knew that Rose must have had the same thought as he saw them both move and then halt, approaching a small group of girls as they walked out of what looked like a cinema.
“Emily. Shock seeing you again so soon.”
Humans.
Edward Cullen was smart, he knew that, but his sisters, they were smart too.
His task would have to wait.
