War Journal Entry number 600 - why I hate computers, part 2,562

I've still got my college computer, and right now about the only thing it gets used for is my comic book database. Currently the thing is so old now that the OS couldn't accept the fact that it was 2008, and I haven't yet tried telling it that it is now 2009. There are rational explanations for all of it... it just always seems more deeply convoluted than it is. Do you want me to look before you go sending it off? I can't remember if you and Bec didn't have somebody that could help with that for free or not.
I think you're not a computer geek because you're an ethical person with a life. (joking. I don't want to offend any geeks. They usually have pirated software I don't.)

The guy that was helping has refused to do any more since we got a Mac. He kept saying "I can't promise it will work if I retrieve the data"and we were fine with that, but trying is better than nothing. Te files we want are mostly pictures and Word documents, we're not trying to transfer programs.

So, yeah, if you can offer some help, that would be appreciated. The one is going to have to be taken in somewhere since it needs to be hooked up to another computer to do anything, but mine with the missing hardrive might be fixable. Pay you back with dinner, eh?

If it's helpful, I have a USB 3 1/2 external drive that I got in order to move over a bunch of my old files. Just let me know if you want to borrow it.

Sweet. That should work to get things onto the Mac, as long as I can get my old PC working. I haven't gotten around to the "disconnect and reconnect everything on the inside" test yet. The other, newer but more f'd PC has USB ports, so we just need to get it limping along.
