I've had it with all the recent -- and by that, I mean over the last five years or so -- romanticization of pirates. Blame Hollywood, blame Disney, blame costume manufacturers, whatever.

The modern reality of pirates is shocking, brutal and deadly (recent proof here). I doubt that the historical reality was all that much different

Won't offend me - I feel the same way, have for years. It's why I don't participate or respond to those who are, on Talk Like a Pirate Day. Why I don't go to pirate-themed parties, and haven't seen the PotC movies: I find pirates to be reprehensible people: those who are willing to kill solely for money. Cruel, inhuman behaviour, which I don't enjoy aping.

i feel the same way too. i showed rosie the Somalian pirates and the fact that the goverment pays them millions of dollars to get their shipments back. mostly arms, tanks and more weapon.

we don't do talk like a pirate day over here because it undermines the severity of the issue.
