I can't understand how they can think the way they do.

I really don't understand them, either. Not Joe Republican on the street, not the people who believe that there is even such a thing as a "death panel" or that the government wants to give us fewer options, or that the system we have now is already perfect because everything we do is the best. This is America, dammit, of course we have the best health care! It seems the only way to understand it is that fear is a powerful motivator, and ignorant people are easy to scare. Once you've freaked them out it's much harder to introduce facts into the argument because people have made up their minds.

There are real conservative arguments against a government-sponsored health plan-and I disagree with these, too-but that's not even where they're focusing their energy.
