Appendix 2.0

Apr 17, 2007 08:15

My brother called this morning, he's doing fine.

I mentioned that this might be the time in his life where his identity might transition from being young and stong to whatever is next. He said "yeah, good thing I'm in school," and that he was feeling more mortal than he ever had.

All is well.

The appendicitis got me that way, too. The first few days in the hospital did a quite a lot to make me feel scared and mortal, but it was the couple months after where I moved like lion-fodder that really messed with my head. I was jumpy-scared every time I left the house.

I'm glad he's doing fine, and I'm glad you're there for him through the life-shifting bits.

Any advice I should pass along?

Damn. I think that everyone needs a certain amount of ass-kicking to become fully human, but he must have been an extra-ornery cuss to merit this much. I am glad to hear that he is doing well.

Actually, he's quite the sweetheart. I think it's more a case of things (physically) going well for him for his whole life, and now the statistics are catching up with him.
