As it was, she merely smiled at the French-- even if context wasn't obvious, Jean-Paul would be the only person she knew who did speak French on a regular basis, so-- she made her way to the door and unlocked it.
Bzzzzt. "Come on up and in, bubbeh."
When he arrived she gestured him to lean down for the obligatory hug and peck on the cheek. "There you are. Ooh, and you brought things to work the alchemy of food upon. You delight me. And you just missed Rachel, who is off to her dad's for the weekend, and this should delight you."

She laughed at Jean-Paul's confession that they'd once created a fire hazard. "I hope you had baking soda on hand. There, that's your first cooking tip-- throwing baking soda-- not powder-- on a fire can help put it out. If it's a small one."
She was nosily poking through the groceries as she spoke, making little 'oooh' noises at the various foodstuffs.
