the watching of things

Fingers are crossed that Longmire gets a fourth season. I really enjoyed S3, even though it went a little darker than the first two. I think the stand-alone episodes were my favorite this year though - the writing seemed stronger when they weren't trying as hard to tie all the other subplots together. The cinematography remains pretty as ever ( Read more... )

I've seen the first two seasons of Longmire and was surprised at how much I enjoyed it (I don't tend to do things set in rural places. I live in a rural town and I want to get the hell out LOL). I haven't seen S.3 because it's not on Netflix yet :P

I haven't seen OitNB. I keep thinking I should, but it's hard to find time to watch an adult oriented show with children in the house and I tend to try to find things both the husband and I would enjoy watching together. I barely made it through the first episode of the eight season of Doctor Who today on my computer with headphones. Took me like three hours to watch :-/

I find a lot of shows that are set in a rural town really miss the mark in how they portray them, like they're just small cities or else some idealized studio back lot, but Longmire gets it mostly right. There was a line in the very first episode where they're getting the farm guys to try on the pair of jeans found in the snow to identify the suspect, and one of the guys asks how that would prove it's a ranch hand who owns them, and Vic says something like "They're Wranglers." The guy answers "Around here, everybody wears Wranglers." I laughed so hard because that's not a detail that would even be a factor in a big city investigation.

I keep thinking I should, but it's hard to find time to watch an adult oriented show with children in the houseYeah, that's definitely a show that I wouldn't have been able to watch with young kids around. We have to wait until they're in bed, and as it is the younger boy walked into the wall when he got up to fill his water cup because he was so entranced by the breasts in a shower room scene. lol. I was saying somewhere else that I think Longmire kind of got off track when the long running plot arcs started to get unwieldy. I still love the acting and the cinematography is gorgeous, so I stuck it out and I'm glad I did. I can't remember the episode titles off the top of my head, but the one about the Cheyenne beauty pageant, and the one about the farmer being murdered were both very good. Population 25 was well executed, but I had to watch a lot of that one with my hands over my eyes because of squeamish things. :)
