Hahahaha. I'm pretty sure, now that I think about it, that it *was* heading in some tragic direction and that's why I stopped writing it, but I still have no idea what happens between this part, and the mental image I have of somebody finding the bet tucked in the bottom of a cigar box in somebody else's locker and I don't think I really want to go there to find out.

Hahaha. Of course. I'm imagining one or the other hanging on to the bet for a while and every time something happens one of them, it's this giant angsty elephant in the room. I just do not have time to write something of that scope, along with all the other plot bunnies taunting me. :(
