It's not that I'm taking any fewer pictures, just that I think I'm becoming more critical about which ones I release into the wilds. Probably the same goes for writing too; more time thinking about the angle and what I want to say than just dashing off words and being surprised at what comes out. I'd like to think of it as maturity, but don't tell ( Read more... )

Don't be so critical, your pictures always leave me breathless! They're just absolutely gorgeous! :)

I love the fact that these all are basically two-toned, even the bird photos. So much going on in just two colors!

Oh no, critical is a good thing! I'm not spamming people with hundreds of pictures of lilies just because they're all in focus anymore. lol. I'm just spending more time honing in on what I want to show people before I take the shot, and even later when I pick a set of pictures to go together.
And thank you very much. It's always nice to get feedback about what strikes people's interests. I took about a dozen shots of the wheat field this morning, but that one jumped out at me too.

Oh, man, that wheat photo is GORGEOUS.

(also, because I need to whine at someone who understands, it looks likely I'll be out the rest of the hockey season, pending the results of tomorrow's MRI. BOO. And after my last game (three weeks ago) of awesome including me diving across the ice to block a puck from our open net (the goalie had to come out to stop a breakaway))

But your photo is still awesome.

Thank you. :) I was so hoping the storm would hit while I was out there, but no such luck.

Oh that definitely sucks! My fingers are crossed that it comes back clear. Though I am a bit jealous that your season can run this long... not that I'd be back to playing yet, but by the fall, for sure. (and pm if you want to fill me in on the details)

Is that not the best? I love those plays. :D

But you can at least see the impending storm. It captures that ominous feeling I love on the prairie - the time just before the heavens just OPEN.

We have three seasons - fall, spring and summer. I would be shocked if the MRI comes back clear - it's pretty much just trying to figure out if my month+ long problem is a bone or tendon issue (my money is on stress fracture in the fibula). I know that long-run it'll be best for me to be super good about treating it right (and either way, he's talking a max of 6 weeks off which isn't so bad) and patiently now, but I'm still going to be cranky about it.

Well, I'm terrible at just taking it easy and letting things heal properly, but it's been proven to me now that sometimes it's worth it (ok, it's probably worth it all the time, but I'm just stubborn and fidgety). Eight weeks in that splint were worth it in the long run because I have near full mobility back now and just need to work on strengthening the muscles again. You'll appreciate that you did take care of it down the road. Do you have physio coverage? Or does your university have a sports medicine faculty that is looking for test subjects?

We've got hockey programs that run all four seasons here too, but they get exponentially more expensive once all the rinks with natural or low-temp artificial ice close for the warm months. Plus, summer is just too short here to spend it inside. However, I have heard of this fabulous 24hour tournament in Vegas that I'd love to play in sometime - games are scheduled right through the night...

Oh no, no, no, don't sell yourself short! Photography is one of those very subjective things. I love your photos (I always look forward to your 4 on fridays). When I say 'critical' its more that I'm paying attention to and making note of what elements of the pictures I'm taking are working and what aren't, instead of just like/dislike the picture as a whole. I've been playing around a lot with depth of field lately and trying to get a better feel for using it to either bring the subject tightly into focus, or putting the attention on to both the foreground and the background at the same time - it's good to hear that the focus of this one works ( ... )

Thank you. :)
The problem late is that I just haven't had the time to properly go through all the recent stuff, except to back it up. I had three different cameras with me the other weekend (including the iPhone), and I still can't keep track of what I shot with which camera to find it all.
