I saw it! My college sent me sun-viewing glasses (yay being an alum of a dork school) and I got out of my exercise class and the sun was clear of the clouds and I put on the glasses and.....VENUS! And it looked just like your awesome photo, only more yellow-orange.
I barely remember watching a solar eclipse in '79 here - my dad brought welder's goggles home from school (where he was a physics teacher at the time) at lunch time and we stood outside and watched, so I picked up welding glass on a whim a while back to have 'just in case'.I was surprised how well this turned out. Going to go out again in another hour when the sun's almost setting, and then color-correct against the filter.
Lucky break that I never throw things out and happened to have welding glass kicking around. ;) I just added a couple more I took as the sun was setting.
It definitely was. The last few astronomical events it's either been cloudy, or way too cold to stand outside for any length of time (-35C), so this was a treat.
