how would i know whether i love you or not without seeing/reading/thinking about at least a part of your journal? curious... would try to be your lj-friend, though...

that's a risk you'll have to take...why do you inquire?

there was a big discussion recently between some american and "non-american" (mostly russian) lj-users on whether it is appropriate to make somebody a friend without asking her/him...

seems that russian users tend take it much easier, and their journals are much more often open and (largely) accessible...

on the other side, many american users keep (and treat) thier diaries in a much more private manner... it is almost impolite to make somebody a "friend" of yours without asking... and many journals are entirely "for friends" only...

in some cases it looks like a "closed door"... you have to pay for the entrance (make efforts/spend time) without knowing what's behind... there is no even an open lobby... well, userpic, username, interest page... not too much :)

yes, sometimes lj-user is known through its posts in communities... but it is much more complicated that simply looking at the journal (e.g., a few most recent posts) and conlcuding a "trial friendship" - not necessarily symmetrical...

I have no qualms about strangers requesting to be friends. I only want to know 1) how they came about my journal and 2) why they want to be added.

My journal is friend's only not because I do not wish for the entire world to take part in the recordings of my life, but I wish not for certain members of the world to know me as intimately as my 'friends' do.

I *wish* to be added.

You seem like a fun character and I would like to proceed in reading upon your life.

I'll try to be a good reader and occasionally drop comments to you, in a sweet but likeable manner.

I stumbled upon your through Shelby, who is seemingly your best friend. She's a sweet thing, no?

Anyways, add me if you desire. If not, no hard feelings :)

I, too, am a friend of LaShelby, and I'm always looking for something interesting to read, someone interesting to keep up with. Have a look around my journal if you like, although I tend to not reveal much any more, and my posts are sort of minimal. Let's be friends? :D
