because boys and dogs go together [OTA, tag Tiberius]

The Doctor hadn't quite understood the processes which led him to take on the role of au pair for the TARDIS's child. Then again, nothing in his past few weeks of residence upon the space station made much in the way of sense at all. Ordinarily, he'd have welcomed the respite from the adventuring, but a stop off at Stockbridge was resoundingly ( Read more... )

Tiberius came quickly. Actually half running, until he reached the docking bay, then approaching at a respectable pace. There was no need for him to make a spectacle of himself when seeking out the Doctor, but he was very anxious to verify his brother's condition.

He didn't know when his perceptions of Varsh had changed quite so drastically. Perhaps because, despite his brother's fragile nature, he'd also seen him as some sort of impenetrable force. Seeing him crumple in this environment had utterly shocked him, and while finding a receptive version of his human father had help alleviate the strain, he still found his thoughts frequently with the half-TARDIS.

A half-TARDIS he'd never actually seen with it's chameleon circuit off.

"Doctor!" he called out as he approached, and then hesitated at the sight of the fetching K-9. "The... dog?" he asked, a bit confused.

"K-9, actually," the Doctor corrected, smiling fondly at the dog, who was angling to deposit the red ball back into the Doctor's hand.

"Master," the robot chirped. "Please position your next attempt at delivery at an angle of 63.4 degrees from the horizontal plane for maximum range across the dock."

The Doctor gave up a withering sigh and did as K-9 instructed. "Not many dogs are able to explain how to throw a ball." He watched K-9 'fetch' the cricket ball with his tractor beam. After he got hold of the ball and slipped it into a coat pocket, he angled his head towards the TARDIS doors. "Shall we?"

"That is true, admittedly. Well, it is a pleasure to make your acquaintance, K-9." He'd call no foul with the name. After all, one of his parents was named "Data". And anything that the Doctor could do to help his brother gave him some sort of hope.

He followed the Doctor back into the TARDIS. "Perhaps I should... inform you of something concerning my father..." That he contemplated stealing the Doctor's timeship? ...Well, he didn't want the Doctor hating the man from the get-go. "He had a difficult life. His universe was overrun by a tyrannical government. He's a good man, though he tries hard not to be because he perceives it as weakness. That is, that's how he is here... The man I knew had moral peculiarities but was much more at ease with himself."

"And you as well," said K-9, bowing his head politely. "Master has uploaded information pertaining to you and your brother into my memory banks. Varsh and I will be highly compatible."

"Both K-9 and your brother are products of human and Gallifreyan technology," the Doctor explained. "I have hopes that their similar internal structures will result in a bond."

"I estimate probability of friendship formed at 98.231%."

"It's a sad situation indeed when being good is considered a weakness," the Doctor said, leading Tiberius and the dog back to the Zero Room. The moral path, he well knew, was not the easy path, and he'd given up lives in order to take that moral path. "He sounds like a man to be wary of."
