Ace grabbed a mug of steaming hot coffee and pulled up a seat in front of one of the view ports out of the space station. One with a beautiful view of space. She could watch stars forever and this was no different

Isis had wondered away from her master, wanting to investigate the station on her own. Not in any human form to speak of, though. Just padding along the promenade, wondering from person to person to look up at them, causing general stress to Mr. Seven because he was out looking for her and she was refusing to answer for the moment.
She caught the smell of the Doctor on this one. Not just the Doctor, but the particular odor of the one she liked to antagonize most. Not that they didn't smell similarly, but they had ticks to their personality, the clothes they wore and the food they ate that made them different between each regeneration.
The woman looked nice enough, and she usually liked the Doctor's companions. She recalled the Doctor's ramblings about kitlings, though, so she didn't just automatically rub up against her leg. She plomped her butt down a decent distance away from her chair and mewled plaintively to announce herself.
Ace didn't know if it was from her time with the Jaguar people or just a natural inclination that she'd never discovered before, but she always felt a connection whenever she saw a cat. She smiled down at Isis and scooted a bit forward in her chair to reach over to scratch the top of her head.
"Aren't you pretty? Where'd you come from, hm? I didn't know there were animals aboard."
Isis popped her head up over the edge of the chair and browled. Being referred to as pretty, obviously, was permission to crawl right into someone's lap. Which she did, and curled into a ball of warm and fur to rest on Ace's lap.
"There you are," Mr. Seven said, finally catching up with the cat as she was claiming time to be petted. "I hope she wasn't bothering you, Miss."
Ace's fingers lazily petted through Isis' fur, enjoying the weight of her on her lap. She dragged her gaze up and smiled at Gary's question. "Not at all. She's lovely. What's her name?"
Peri's mood had lifted considerably from her first few days on the station. Gone was the panicked tightness in her chest from being the cause of a very real station-wide emergency, and she was pretty grateful that most people here appeared to either have really short memories or were more than willing to stop dwelling on the past.
And now she had the gardens to look after, and that took a lot of work, but she also decided that she should take the Doctor's advice to heart and explore the station a little, see what she could find.
Which was why she was approaching the girl who was staring out at that starfield outside.
Ace turned to look at her and nod. "Yes, it is. You know I never get tired of seeing it. It's not the same as looking out over a canyon or an ocean, but it's just as beautiful." She gestured toward one of the empty chairs. "I wouldn't mind the company if you'd like to join."
Peri gave the other girl a huge grin. "Well, I'm supposed to be headed back to work but..." But it wasn't as if anything happening at the gardens was that pressing.
"Thought you'd never ask. I guess I can stick around for a bit." She sat in one of the empty chairs, crosslegged. "I'm Peri. You've been here on the station very long?"
"I'm Ace." She supplied and nodded. "Yeah, I've been here a few months. Wasn't expecting to be here, but I guess no one is." Ace grinned at her. "What about you? You been here long?"
She'd heard about what happened with the recent crisis, but Ace hadn't been involved directly. All she knew was that something had happened to make some people have their DNA rewritten. That was all. Ace had no idea that the woman sitting next to her was involved. Nor would she have cared beyond being curious if she had.
